About the NGC Registry

Posted on 1/1/2023

The NGC Registry is the hobby's most comprehensive, online coin collecting platform. Learn how to participate for free.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) created the NGC Registry in 2001 to provide a free, online platform where collectors can organize and display their collections and earn prizes and recognition. Today, the NGC Registry boasts more than 1.6 million coins registered in more than 280,000 sets by more than 30,000 members from around the world.

Organize, display and compete

The most popular way to participate in the NGC Registry is with competitive sets, where NGC defines the set categories and eligible coins.

Competitive set categories have slots for each coin needed to complete the set. When you add a coin to a slot, it receives a point score based on its grade, relative rarity and value. These scores are then totaled and your set is ranked against other sets based on their total scores.

There are competitive set categories for almost every collecting interest. Some of the most popular include Morgan Dollars, 1878-1921 or Chinese Silver Pandas, 1983-Present.

NGC-certified coins and PCGS-certified US coins are eligible for competitive sets. The NGC Registry also recognizes and scores coins evaluated by CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation).

For collectors who assemble sets in their own unique ways, custom sets are ideal. Custom sets let you define the theme and choose which coins are eligible. NGC and PCGS-certified coins as well as raw coins are eligible for NGC Registry custom sets.

Win prizes and recognition

Every year the NGC Registry awards more than $30,000 in prizes to outstanding sets. To enter, simply create an NGC Registry set and add coins.

Major award winners receive a plaque, a $500 NGC grading credit and an icon of recognition in their NGC Registry profile. The NGC Registry also recognizes the #1 set in each set category. Each winner receives a certificate and an icon of recognition displayed next to their winning set.

The deadline to enter the NGC Registry awards is early November, and awards are given in early January. Please note that private sets will not be considered for awards.
